BACKGROUND

Management Development and Productivity International (MDPI) is a management development organization located within Southern African Development Community (SADC) and situated in the Kingdom of Swaziland. The institution was established in 2001 and registered under the Swaziland Business Registration Act for Incorporated Companies Act of 1912 (Section 7). By this incorporation, MDPI is legally authorized to provide capacity building programmes including management training, high quality advisory and consultancy services, productivity development and enhancement, as well as research.

The Centre is located in Mbabane, the capital city of Swaziland in the Southern African sub-region. As a country that is renowned for its scenic beauty, peace, stability, unique culture and tradition as well as quality education, Swaziland enjoys an added privilege as the centre of training for member states of the SADC, and this gives the institution (MDPI) )the added advantage of serving as a capacity building centre for most institutions and organisations in the sub-region as well as the entire continent.

MDPI also caters for specific corporate problems through the provision of special courses tailored to meet needs diagnosed in partnership with clients. Such tailor-made courses serve to induce, instigate or support an organisational change process, to improve specific staff skills and to initiate new work methods, systems and procedures. Our course schedule dates are also not cast in stone. MDPI offers our clients the flexibility of fixing dates that will suit their organisational plans and circumstances. Our pragmatic and accommodating facilitators are always willing to adjust their schedules to meet our clients’ timings.

Monitoring Participants' Performance At Workplaces

It is MDPI policy to make periodic follow-ups on participants, requesting them to complete questionnaires or write reports regarding the impact of their training on their work performance in particular and their organisations in general. Perhaps even more important is the fact that there is a close and informal relationship between participants and staff at MDPI. It is this cordial relationship between staff and participants that makes MDPI special – and the basis of continuing link between MDPI and so many of its participants long after completion of their programmes.

The components of each course/programme are painstakingly selected, taking cognizance of the essential ingredients of organisational development. They are worthwhile and enriching for the whole of the participants’ careers.

In the main, our programme is developed in response to the identified knowledge and skills gaps prevalent in organisations, and to the changing training needs of the developing world. It concentrates on the practical aspects of management, aimed at prompting top or middle managers to make the best use of resources available to them.

MDPI organises its management and training programmes from mid-January to mid-December each year. The duration of these courses ranges from two weeks to six weeks. The target beneficiaries of these programmes range from supervisory to senior management personnel in public, parastatals and private sector organisations.
